BLISS FARM textile products are fashioned from antique French and German grain sacks.
Originally the sacks were used by farmers to take their goods to market. At the end of each market the farmers collected their bags for reuse. The bags were often passed down from father to son for generations. The initials and decorative details on each bag were used to indicate ownership.
The fabric was hand woven decades ago from home grown flax. The flax was retted in lakes, ponds, or streams. And not only are the textiles durable but they also naturally mildew and mold resistant.
When you buy our products you support artisans, small businesses, fair-trade and sustainability in the United States.
Flubs, nubs, repairs, discolorations, and variations in texture are all normal. They are the very one of a kind and genuine qualities that are so valued by designers and collectors. We do not mass-produce anything and we seldom make two of the same products due to the limited amounts of antique textiles.
